Sell Outs... as people say
What's up with people these days? Whenever they see an artist change their appearance which people are not accustomed to seeing they immediately say that the artist has "sold out" already. When an artist gets a different hair cut, people then say that he's having an identity crisis. What the hell is this about? These artists are also human... aren't they entitled to have their own haircut? Are they doomed to wear the same look till they die? Why are people so in their faces on this one? Why do they make such a big deal out of this?
As I was watching MTV just before doing this, I saw a special on bad hairdos in showbiz. Well, at first they had their point since the stars they were showing really didn't have a clue. But then they got to S.O.AD.... it would have been a good argument but then they commented on shavo's braided beard, that little children would flee in fear of him when he plays at concerts. To me it sounds a lot like B.S... since little children aren't really the "audience" of S.O.AD... and these little kids aren't even allowed in concerts yet. So it was a stupid comment on the part of MTV....
Well, on the issue of selling out, it's been like an impulse of people to say that this band has sold out when they sign at a major label. Just look at it, at a fan's standpoint you want to hear your favorite band for as long as they can play. But still people treat these bands so cold when they decide to ditch the indie scene and sign to a major label. What people fail to realize is that, for these bands to continue in the scene, they must be heard by people all over. So they can have the resources to produce another album if they plan to.
And basically one reason that a band has in mind when they decide to take the "band" thing seriously is basically to spread their sound. And if they do not take these opportunities when it comes their way then their music will only be doomed to be heard by the band itself and the four corners of the room that they practice in.
