Cover my Orig!!

Cover music artists or "Orig" music artists? Which of the two should get more attention?
Is it just me or are cover songs getting more attention on radio and tv nowadays? I'm not saying that the airwaves is being dominated by it, what I'm trying to point out is that these songs suddenly sprouted out of nowhere and demand more airtime compared to what they were getting years ago. Well, it's not bad if artists do a cover or two, but it's another thing if almost everything they release commercially is a remake of a song.
It's hard to make a decent sounding cover of a song... but it's a totally different dimension in writing a totally kick-ass song! It's not sourgraping or anything, but isn't it unfair to others who give their all just to give their song a distinct sound yet still get no airplay? And yet these cover bands get all the airplay they need and then some more...
Playing cover songs isn't bad at all, sometimes I like it when new bands open up by playing a cover song to get the crowd into them, then they play their originals. I also like it sometimes when bands put a cover song or two on their cd... take note: A cover song or TWO... and not make a cd with an original song or two in it and drown it with cover songs.
These cover song craze needs to be contained, why? would you like it if foreigners labeled our music as cover music? Seatle style music is mostly known as grunge, Memphis is known for blues so do you want the philippine music to be characterized as cover music?
So when will this craze end? Who knows... maybe just before we face the end of our original music industry....
